Bios

Montreal based independant jazz-rock trio wave soup was born in 2012 out of composer Benoît Dubuisson's desire to integrate the Chapman Stick to an improvisational, yet accessible musical context. The goal was to transcend genres and from the very first bars, the resulting sound has been surprising, and slowly progressing into a voice of it's own. Characterized by funky and world beat roots, groovy improvisation, psychedelic synthesizer ambiances, and some solid rhythms, the music of wave soup stands at the edge of jazz, rock, funk and prog; it's a bit of them all, but none of any of them really.

In 2013, the trio released the promotional e.p. III, a three pieces mini-album which was announcing the colors of the sound to come. In 2017, wave soup released their debut album Tectonic, and launched their Youtube channel, which have since had more then 70,000 views from all over the world. The trio will soon launch their second album titled Heliosphere.

Benoît Dubuisson

Multi instrumentist, composer and producer Benoît Dubuisson played his first guitar notes in the 70s, under the influence of the prog-rock bands of the era. As a teenager, he already experiments with instruments (often home made), and starts his journey in composition and sound recording.

After his collegial studies in classical guitar where he got noticed at the Canadian Music Competition and at the "Prix d'Expression Musicale au Collégial", Benoît goes traveling around the world, to further enrich his cultural and musical knowledge. For most of the 90s, he stays in over fifty countries on the five continents, meeting musicians and gigging as often as possible. His curiosity brings him notably to the Middle East, India and latin America.

Back in Montreal he builds his own recording studio and start producing albums and collaborating with different bands, including throat singing group Globe Glotters and celtic rock band Corrigan Fest.

After performing on the guitar, the mandolin, the banjo, and the bass, Benoît Dubuisson meets the Chapman Stick, his actual main instrument, and center of the wave soup project.
